Funniest part of the debate

I watched Thursday's debate between the leaders of Alberta's biggest political parties. I suppose I could comment on what I thought of their policies and leadership abilities, but instead I'll just tell you what I thought was the funniest part of the debate. Maybe I'll comment on policies and leadership another time.

One time when everyone was trying to talk at once, Ed Stelmach interrupted and said, "One at a time. You have had your chance. This is not the Legislative Assembly."

Stelmach has the fakest smile... dude creeps me out.

How do we go about getting proportional representation? Have those european countries always had it?

His smile isn't fake; he's just a little shy. :)

To get proportional representation, I suppose we'd need one of those electoral reform assemblies that some other provinces have had. But so far I don't think any of them have actually had the changes approved. If we had proportional representation, we'd have a lot more minority governments and each area wouldn't really have its own specific representative. Would you want that? I'm not sure if those European countries have had it since they became democratic. I guess you and my other readers should look it up.

I heard Ontario voted (overwhelmingly) against it... 8 to 1 or something ridiculous like that. Yes I do want it - how responsive would my current MP be if I petitioned him to... say... invest more money in tidal power research? Versus the green party who would have ~10 seats in the House if they were proportionally represented??
